Salt N Pepper goes to Hindi?

India's leading commercial director Priyadarshan is reportedly interested in buying the Hindi remake rights of super hit Malayalam romantic comedy Salt N Pepper, directed by Aashiq Abu with Lal, Asif Ali, Shweta Menon, Mythili, Baburaj and Vijayaraghavan in the lead roles. Priyadarshan is currently busy with two films: Tez (Hindi), starring Mohanlal, and another Mohanlal starrer Arabiyum Ottakavaum P. Madhavan Nairum (Malayalam). Salt N Pepper is expected to commence after the director completes his two ongoing films.

Akhila seeks challenging roles

Two film years old, actress cum TV anchor Akhila, who is busy with the post-release works of her recent flick Teja Bhai & Family, informed that she is not in a hurry to do movies back-to-back, though she is receiving offers even from Tamil and Telugu. Why? "I didn't want to rush myself into anything. Even now, after Teja Bhai, I haven't signed anything. I am on the look out for a good script. I would like to do challenging roles," she said.

Malayalam actor Vinu Mohan’s father Mohan (61) died today . He was the brother in law of Saikumar. Mohan was famous drama artist and drama director. His wife is Shobha Mohan, daughter of Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair. She is also active in Malayalam cinema. Mohan had a drama troupe named Kayamkulathu Janani Kala Mandir. He had also acted in films like Chakravakam, Radha, Thanmatra, Chattambinadu etc.

Jayasurya in 'Ladies and Gentlemen'

Jayasurya, the young actor who has been seen in a variety of roles has just completed the shoot of his latest film 'Vadhyar'.Jayasurya would be soon seen in a new film titled 'Ladies and Gentlemen' to be directed by V K Prakash. Along with Jayasurya, Anoop Menon would also be seen in a key role in the film. Anoop and Jayasurya had come together for the super successful film 'Cocktail' last year. V K Prakash and Jayasurya have also had a release quite recently in '3 Kings'. The film, however did not create much of an impact at the box office.

The shoot of Amal Neerad's new film 'Arivaal Chuttika Nakshatram is expected to start by November. The title of the film has given rise to much speculation that the film is a political thriller. However, insiders claim that the film does not deal with politics at all. The film that is being scripted by Shankar Ramakrishnan is more of a period drama that is set in the period post-independence but before the birth of Kerala state. The politics that prevailed the scene then would become part of the film as well. Nothing more, nothing less. The film has Mammootty and Prithviraj in the lead roles, and would be produced by August Cinema.

IT plans raids on other Malayalam stars?

The Income Tax department, which recently conducted a series of raid at the premises of Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty, is reportedly planning more raids on Malayalam artistes and producers who have a dubious record of tax evasion. Top sources said the IT department has been flooded with information on the precise nature and extent of tax evasion. "In most cases, only 30% of the remuneration is given in white, while the major portion is transferred in cash, which makes evasion the industry's stock-in-trade," said the source. The tax evasion has been three-pronged; suppression of the actual remuneration, claiming of bogus expenses and camouflaging professional receipts by manipulating overseas film rights. |

Mithun Chakraborty in Mollywood?

Popular Bollywood actor, social activist and entrepreneur Mithun Chakraborty, who has won three National Film Awards, is all set to debut in Malayalam films. According to sources, Malayalam director Jayaraj approached the actor for his next film with a good role that is especially written with Chakraborty in mind. The actor, who was recently in Kochi, confirmed the same. "Jayaraj met Mithunda for an ad shoot and that is where he expressed his desire to work with the veteran actor. Mithun agreed for a script narration and took his offer into consideration,” a source close to the actor said. More details about the film are awaited.

Arvind Swamy back as villain

Renowned actor and industrialist Arvind Swamy, who won the hearts of millions with his excellent acting skills and looks in Thalapathi, Roja, Bombay and Devaragam (Malayalam) during the 90s, used to say that he would never return to films! But he has finally changed his decision. The actor will be the villain in the upcoming Vishal-Trisha film directed by Thiru. The actor, who kept on refusing offers from the directors, was reportedly impressed with Thiru's script. Notably, this is the first time Trisha is pairing up with Vishal. She used to say "No" to Vishal movies for a long time, then suddenly changed her mind and signed this Vishal starrer.
